Twenty six year old Jordan Dunn, top Bristish Model and the new face of the May 2017 cover Issue of Fashion Magazine, which comes out on April 10th sat down with her interviewer after a long shoot to talk about life and career.
Excerpts from Interview
On the issue of diversity: “I don’t want to talk about it (diversity) anymore. I feel like we’re going backwards. We take one step forward and then we go 10 steps back.”
On being proud of herself: “I would say it was when I learned how to make good rice. Rice is actually kind of hard! It’s more complicated than you’d think. I was 18 at the time, and I was really pleased with myself.”
On being confident about self and growing up: I wasn’t always confident. “People pick up on your differences and want to tear you down. It got to the point where I didn’t want to walk down the street because I was so paranoid that people were looking at me and judging me; I was definitely insecure about my body”.
On figuring out life: “I’m young and still trying to figure things out. I don’t think of myself as a role model, but I do want people to know that it’s OK to, like, fuck up. We’re humans. We’re not perfect. I’m not trying to portray anything but my true self.”
On overcoming fear: “Fear can’t be an option; we just have to face up to the situation and go for it.”
On being pregnant at nineteen: “I asked myself, ‘Can I be responsible for another human being? Like, what the hell!’ I was lucky I had my mom to guide me, but at the same time she let me learn to trust my own instincts.”
